In this ‘Nachlass’ bag they send all the personal things from the soldier back to his family.   This bag is dated 11/1944, at that time Belgium was already liberated, therefore they have send it to his wife in Germany after she had left Belgium.

Here is a sad story of a Flemish family who lost 2 brothers in 3 month …

Jan was Ustuf. of the 5. Kp Freiw. Legion Flandern and his brother Paul was in the 1. E SS Westland.

First Flemish officers education at Lauenburg

In september 1941 the first flemish officers got an education in Lauenburg:

Here we see a picture of the whole group of officer students from different countries.. very nice picture.  In the middle we notice the flemish candidate officers again.

On 13/10/1941 Staf De Clercq (leader of VNV) and Edgard Delvo visited the flemish officers in Arys.

Himmler encouraged to raise, on 3 April 1941, a second volunteer reginment for young men from Flanders, Holland and Denmark.  This was the Freiwilligenstandarte Nordwest.  They also had a cuff title Nordwest witch was only used several months…  The 1st, 6th and 8th Companies of the Nordwest Regiment were Flemish.
